Planning your gay wedding on Maui
Or perhaps we should just call it "wedding". With the Supreme Court decision today legalizing same sex marriage all over the U.S., a wedding is now just a wedding. We are so pleased to see justice finally done and that our clients can now go back home after their wedding knowing that their union will be legally recognized in their home state. We have been planning and photographing same sex unions since Hawaii legislated "Civil Unions" a few years ago and more recently when Hawaii was ahead of the curve and legalized gay marriage. Those first few couples who took advantage of the civil union laws and came out to Maui are brave souls, pioneers who took vows in public even though it wasn't legal in the country, yet we never heard a discouraging word from anyone who might have been on the beach that day but instead the couple would be treated to applause from the few folks who might have been paying attention to the ceremony from afar. But all that is over now. Marriage is just that, whether you are of the same or opposite gender and we are so happy for our friends who no longer have to feel even a little uncomfortable.
So with that great news we'd like to post a few images from our past pioneers in gay marriage, those folks who came out here to be married just like anybody else.
Eye contact. That's our tip for couples today. Nothing is more important than eye contact for those memorable wedding photos. Most of our Maui Wedding ceremonies last about 15 minutes; short and sweet. 15 or 20 minutes for your photographer to capture something that happens once in your lifetime. Not to put too much pressure on the wedding couple, but the beauty of your Maui wedding images depend not only on the professionalism of your photographer, but also by your facial expressions, relaxed attitude and eye contact with each other and the camera. During the ceremony, your attention should be on the person you are marrying. Looking into each others eyes during the vows, lei ceremony and ring exchange not only creates incredible images but also bonds the two of you during what is a very intimate moment.
Christopher and Daniel's Gay wedding on Maui was performed yesterday by Reverand Kimo on beautiful Baby Beach in Lahaina. It was a very simple and heartfelt ceremony, just the two of them, with a couple of gorgeous maile ti lies. It had been raining on Maui for a couple of days with wind and gray skies but after this ceremony the clouds broke and we had the opportunity to view another fabulous Maui sunset. Funny thing about the rain, which is pretty rare on Maui, is that people tend to stay away from the beaches so we had Baby Beach pretty much to ourselves. Thanks to Daniel and Christopher, a very warm and loving couple, for letting us be part of your Maui Wedding!
